MERCURY Conference 3rd September 2010 "CHALLENGES FOR GLOBAL EUROPE"

MERCURY and the Europa Institute of the University of Edinburgh are pleased to announce a half-day conference on the European Union's role in the evolving global order. The financial crisis, climate change talks, migration, the rise of China and other issues present a host of challenges, and leading figures will reflect on the EU's priorities and capabilities given post-Lisbon restructuring of external policy. 18 and 19 June 2010: Commission President Barroso and MERCURY in Florence

On 18 June 2010, Commission President Barroso has delivered a speech on "The European Union and Multilateral Global Governance" at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. On 19 June 2010, the speech was followed by a seminar on "What Should the EU Agenda for Global Governance Be?". During the two-day event, which was the official opening of the new Global Governance Programme at the EUI, MERCURY was represented by Prof. Christopher Hill and Prof. Wolfgang Wessels.
